Analytics
On this page
Analytics shows how many people watched your published messages, where they watched, and for how long, with your live stream viewers and your in-person attendance on the same timeline. It answers questions like "which sermons are people coming back to?" and "did online viewing grow while in-person dipped?".
Where to find it
Open Publish > Library > Analytics. It works the same on the web app and in Tech Manager.
Pick a date range
- Go to Publish > Library > Analytics.
- Open the date range dropdown and choose Last 7 days, Last 28 days (the default), Last 90 days, Last 12 months or This year.
- For other dates, choose Custom range and set the from and to dates.
- On the right, choose Day, Month or Year to group the chart. A very long range shown by day switches to months by itself.
Read the totals
At the top of Publish > Library > Analytics are three numbers for the range:
- Plays: one play is one person watching one message on one day. The same person opening the same message twice on Sunday is one play; again on Monday is a second.
- Unique viewers: how many different viewers watched in the range.
- Average watch time: how long a play lasted on average.
Under each number is the change against the period of the same length just before it, for example "12% against the previous 28 days". These totals count on-demand Library plays only, so they add up to the table below.
Read the chart
- Go to Publish > Library > Analytics and look at Plays over time.
- Each bar is stacked by where people watched: Watch page (a message's own page), Series page, Website embed, Live page replay and Live stream.
- The dotted line with dots is In-person attendance for the same days, from the counts you enter for your plans.
- Hover over a bar to see the numbers for that day, month or year, including In person.
Live and replay viewers are shown on the chart only; they are not added into the Plays total.
Find your most-watched messages
- Go to Publish > Library > Analytics and scroll to By message.
- The table lists each message played in the range with Plays, Unique viewers, Average watch and Total watch time.
- Click a column heading to sort by it. Click again to reverse the order.
- Click a row to open that message's page, where you can edit, trim or share it.
See one message's numbers
Open any message from Publish > Library. Its How it's doing card shows plays All time, the Peak day, the Average watch, and a small chart of the last 90 days.
Troubleshooting
"Nothing was watched in this range"
No one played a published message in those dates. A play is counted when somebody presses play on a published message's page or its embed. Try a longer range.
"No message was played in this range"
The table is empty for the same reason. Choose a longer range, such as Last 12 months.
The in-person line is missing
The line is drawn only for days that have an attendance count. Enter counts for your plans on Plan > Service Metrics.
My numbers seem lower than YouTube's or Facebook's
This page counts plays on your own watch site and embeds. Views on YouTube, Facebook or other destinations are not included in Plays.
Good to know
- Analytics never names a viewer. Everything here is totals.
- File downloads are not counted as plays.
