The Live tab runs a plan during the service. Starting a run puts the plan on the clock: it shows what is on now, how long it has been going against its planned length, what is up next, and records each item's real start and finish so you can see afterwards whether the service ran long.

Where to find it

Go to Plan > Services, open the plan, and click the Live tab. On the web app the address ends in ?tab=live. Tech Manager has the same tab. Each run belongs to one of the plan's Times, so a 9:00 and an 11:00 each get their own run and their own recorded timings.

Start the run

  1. Go to Plan > Services, open the plan, and click Live.
  2. If the plan has two or more Times, choose the one you are running next to Running.
  3. On the Ready to run card, click Start run. To practise without recording anything, click Test run instead.
  4. The first item becomes On now and its clock starts.

Move through the service

  • Click Next when the next item begins. The finished item's real length is recorded.
  • Click Skip to pass over an item without timing it.
  • Click any item in the list below to jump the run to it.
  • The top of the card shows On plan, or how far over or under the plan the service is. Up next names the following item.
  • The footer shows the time since the start and how many items are done.

Let Present move the run for you

  1. While a run is open, click Automatic in the run's footer (Manual is the default, where you press Next).
  2. In automatic mode, when a song goes on screen in Present the run moves to it. Items Present doesn't show (the welcome, the sermon) advance on the plan's clock using their planned lengths.
  3. A line under the clock says what the run is doing: on screen now as reported by Present, advancing on the plan's clock, or Held here. when it is waiting (for example for the next song, or because an item has no planned length and only you can move it on).

End the run

  1. Click End run.
  2. Confirm End run. The clock stops and the run is recorded. A real run cannot be reopened afterwards.

Ending a real run marks the plan as done; on Plan > Services its chip changes from Live to Done. A test run never changes the plan's status.

Start over or throw a run away

  • Restart clears the times recorded so far and starts again at the first item (confirm Restart run).
  • Discard deletes the run and its times so you can start fresh (confirm Discard run).

Both are available any time before you end the run.

Pick up a run after leaving the page

If you open Live while a run is unfinished, you see A run is in progress. Choose Resume to carry on, Restart to begin again, or Discard to throw it away. Nothing is final until a real run ends.

See how a finished service went

  1. Open the plan's Live tab after the run has ended. You see This time has been run with the actual time, the planned time and how far over or under it ran.
  2. Click View times to see each item's planned and actual length (Recorded times); Close hides it.
  3. Earlier runs lists every finished run of this plan, including the other Times; test runs are tagged Test.
  4. Start a test run lets you try again without touching the recorded times. Delete this run removes a real run's timings for good (confirm Delete it anyway).

Troubleshooting

My run says "Test run." when I meant to run the real service

A run is made a test automatically when the Time already has a finished run, or when you start it well before or well after the service (more than about 12 hours before that Time starts, or more than about 12 hours after it ends). The bar at the top of the run says which. Test runs are never recorded as the service's timings. Discard it and start the real run during the service.

"This plan has no items yet. Add them on the Order tab."

Add items on the Order tab first; the run follows the order of service.

A red bar says "Couldn't advance to the next item" (or skip, end, restart)

The press did not go through. Nothing is retried for you, so the screen shows what actually happened. Check the On now item and press the button again if you still need to. Click Dismiss to clear the message.

Automatic mode isn't moving on

Look at the line under the clock. Held here. means it is waiting for the next song to go on screen in Present, or that the current item has no planned length. Press Next, or give items a length on the Order tab.

Good to know

  • A second screen watching the same run catches up within a few seconds.
  • The recorded item timings are what Plan > Service Metrics uses to split sound levels by item.
  • The web app and Tech Manager show the same tab and control the same run.
