Devices is your church's list of A/V and network equipment: consoles, cameras, switchers, projectors, computers, network gear and more. Each device can have its ports, location, model and health. The same list feeds the Signal Map, the Patches cable schedule, Camera Control and the support AI.

Where to find it

Open Patch > Devices. It works in both the web app and Tech Manager. The one difference: Scan (looking for devices on the network) only runs in Tech Manager on the booth computer, because a browser cannot see the church network.

The header shows how many devices are in the inventory and how many are online, degraded, offline or stale.

Add a device by hand

  1. Go to Patch > Devices and click Add device.
  2. Optional: click a Quick Add Template such as PTZ Camera or Video Switcher to fill in the basics.
  3. Under Select Brand & Model to auto-fill settings, pick a Brand and Model. A model from the catalog fills in the device type and its ports. If yours is not listed, choose + Enter custom (one-time) and type it; you can then click Not in catalog — research ports & docs with AI (it can take a minute).
  4. Type a Device label (required), and check the Category and Device type.
  5. Type the IP address, or turn on No IP address (non-networked) for gear like projectors on HDMI.
  6. Fill in anything else you want: Physical location, Device group, Serial number, Purchase date, Warranty until, Notes.
  7. Click Add device. It appears in its category section.

For cameras, the dialog also shows Camera Settings: turn on PTZ control, choose a Control protocol (VISCA over IP or ONVIF PTZ), and add the RTSP stream URL for a picture. For computers, tick its Software Roles (what job the machine does).

Scan the network for devices (Tech Manager)

  1. In Tech Manager, go to Patch > Devices.
  2. Click Scan. A bar shows the sweep (ping and port scan, with ONVIF, SSDP and NDI probes). A full sweep can take up to a minute.
  3. Found devices are identified and added to the inventory.
  4. If a found device might already be in your list, a Potential duplicates dialog opens. Click Merge into existing to fold the new row into the one you have (your label and category are kept), or Ignore to keep both.

Ping devices is different: it re-checks the devices already in the list and never looks for new ones. On the web app the same button is Refresh, which reloads status from the cloud.

Add many devices at once

  1. Go to Patch > Devices and click Bulk add / edit.
  2. In Add grid, type or paste rows from a spreadsheet (Category, Sub-Type, Label, Make, Model, IP, Location, Notes). Use + 5 rows for more lines.
  3. Or open CSV import and drop a CSV file. It needs at least type and label columns; Download sample CSV shows the format. Rows load into the grid for review.
  4. Click Import (the button shows how many devices). A make and model the catalog knows gets its ports automatically.

To change many existing devices, open the Bulk edit tab, tick the devices, and click the Load button to put them in the grid. Change the cells and click Save (the button shows how many changes).

Import an integrator's drawing

  1. Go to Patch > Devices and click Import drawing.
  2. Drop a PDF or image (up to 20 MB): signal-flow diagrams, one-lines and rack elevations all work. Optionally fill in Anything we should know?
  3. Click Read the drawing. Reading can take a couple of minutes. You can click Leave it running and come back; the importer offers Pick it up next time.
  4. Review every device and connection against the drawing (you can show the drawing itself beside the list). Untick anything wrong and fix makes and models.
  5. Click Import to add the devices and connections.
  6. If some cable ends only land on a device rather than a jack, pick the exact jacks and click Set (it shows how many cable ends), or click Skip for now.

Nothing is added to your inventory until you import.

Edit a device, its ports and its health alerts

  1. Go to Patch > Devices and click View (the eye) on the device.
  2. A side panel opens with four tabs:
    • Device — name, category, brand, model, serial, network, location, warranty, notes.
    • Connection — the device's ports. Click Add port or Bulk… to add several. Click a port to open it, choose what it is Connected to, and click Apply. This draws the cable on the Signal Map.
    • Camera (cameras only) — PTZ control, protocol, RTSP stream and a Latest Frame preview.
    • Health — Alert when device goes offline and after how many seconds, the current Status, documentation links, and Having trouble with this device? to ask Luminos with this device's details attached.
  3. Click Apply changes.

For a camera with PTZ control on, the card also has Open PTZ Control, which opens it in Produce > Camera Control.

Fill in missing ports

On Patch > Devices, a device with no ports cannot be wired on the Signal Map until its ports are filled in.

  1. Go to Patch > Devices and click Find missing ports.
  2. Click Research ports. Every device with a make and model but no ports is looked up.
  3. Review the results and click Apply on the rows you want. Nothing changes until you apply a row.

Find and filter devices

On Patch > Devices:

  • Click a category pill (All, Audio, Video, Lighting, Network, Computers…) to show one kind.
  • Type in Filter by name, brand, model, IP….
  • Switch between Card view and List view with the buttons in the header.
  • Not seen recently (shown only when there are any) lists devices that have not answered a scan or status check for 45 days or more. Nothing is removed automatically.

Remove devices

  1. On Patch > Devices, to remove one device, click Remove (the bin) on its card and confirm.
  2. To remove several, tick their boxes, then click Delete in the bar at the bottom (Select all visible picks everything shown). Press Esc or Cancel to clear the selection.
  3. To clear out old gear, click Not seen recently, then Remove from inventory. The confirmation lists every device.

Removing a device also removes its ports, any cables drawn to it, its place on the diagram and its health history. It cannot be undone.

Troubleshooting

There is no Scan button

You are on the web app. Scanning only runs in Tech Manager on the booth computer. On the web, add devices by hand, with Bulk add / edit, or with Import drawing.

The scan did not find my device

The scan only sees what the booth computer can reach on its network. Devices without a network connection never show up. Add them with Add device and turn on No IP address (non-networked).

A device shows Offline or Stale

Offline means it stopped answering status checks; stale means no recent status has come in. Check its power and network cable, then click Ping devices in Tech Manager (or Refresh on the web). Turn on Alert when device goes offline in its Health tab to be told next time.

My camera is not in Camera Control

Open the camera with View, go to the Camera tab, turn on PTZ control, and click Apply changes.

Good to know

  • The Physical location is the device's room on the Signal Map.
  • Devices with an unrecognised type are listed under Uncategorised, where they can be fixed or removed.
  • The support AI and the 910-WORSHIP phone line troubleshoot from this list and your Signal Map, so the more complete it is, the better your support.
