In the web app, each Audience or Stage screen is a browser window on the projector. A browser only lets a page fill the screen after someone clicks, so the window can open with Chrome's bar across the top of the projector. This article covers the one press that fills it, and the one-time setup for Chrome and Edge that removes even that press, so the window fills the projector the moment it opens.

Where to find it

In Present, the row for the screen in Settings > Outputs reads Not full screen while the bar is showing (hover it: "Chrome's bar is showing on this display. Click here, or click in the output window, to fill the screen."). When nothing else is wrong, the small yellow triangle on the Audience or Stage button says the same: "The Audience window is not full screen. Click to fill the screen." Web app only; Tech Manager places its own screens and never shows a bar.

Fill the screen with one press (no setup)

  1. In Present, press Audience (or Stage). The window opens on the projector with the browser's bar at the top.
  2. Press anything on the operator page next: the next slide, a chip, a key. The window fills its screen.
  3. If it is still framed, click the words Not full screen on its row in Settings > Outputs, or click the yellow triangle on Audience, or click once inside the output window itself.

Pressing Esc in the output window brings the bar back on purpose, and the next slide does not undo that: click the row, the triangle, or inside the window to fill it again.

Fill the screen with no click at all (Chrome and Edge, one-time setup)

Chrome and Edge have a setting a computer can carry, called AutomaticFullscreenAllowedForUrls, that lets one named website go full screen without a click. It is a browser policy: it is set on the booth computer, not in WorshipMetrics and not on the browser's own settings page (there is no button for it there). Once it is in place, the output window fills the projector the moment it opens, with no press on the operator page and no click in the window, every service. It affects only app.worshipmetrics.com; every other website in that browser behaves exactly as before. It needs Chrome or Edge version 124 or newer.

Windows

  1. On the booth computer, download app.worshipmetrics.com/downloads/WorshipMetrics-AutoFullscreen.reg (it is a small text file; open it in Notepad first if you want to read it).
  2. Double-click the file and answer yes when Windows asks whether to add it to the registry. You need to be an administrator on that computer, once.
  3. Close every Chrome (or Edge) window and open the browser again.

The file adds two registry values, one for Chrome and one for Edge, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, Policies, each naming https://app.worshipmetrics.com. Nothing else on the computer changes.

Mac

  1. Download app.worshipmetrics.com/downloads/WorshipMetrics-AutoFullscreen.mobileconfig.
  2. Double-click it, then open System Settings, General, Device Management (on older macOS, System Preferences, Profiles), choose "WorshipMetrics - Automatic full screen" and install it.
  3. Close every Chrome (or Edge) window and open the browser again.

The profile sets the same setting for Chrome and for Edge. If the church's Macs are managed with Jamf, Intune or another device manager, push the same thing as a preference file instead: domain com.google.Chrome (and com.microsoft.Edge), key AutomaticFullscreenAllowedForUrls, a list with the one entry https://app.worshipmetrics.com. Typing it with the "defaults write" command is not enough, because Chrome only honours this setting when the computer manages it.

Check it took

Open a new tab at chrome://policy (edge://policy in Edge) and click the reload button at the top. AutomaticFullscreenAllowedForUrls is in the list, with https://app.worshipmetrics.com beside it and no error. Then open Present and press Audience: the window fills the projector by itself, and its row in Settings > Outputs never reads Not full screen.

Undo it

Windows: open Registry Editor (regedit), go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, Policies, Google, Chrome, delete the AutomaticFullscreenAllowedForUrls key, do the same under Policies, Microsoft, Edge, and reopen the browser. The comments inside the downloaded file give the same steps.

Mac: open System Settings, General, Device Management, select "WorshipMetrics - Automatic full screen", remove it, and reopen the browser.

Troubleshooting

chrome://policy lists the setting, but the window still opens with a bar

  • Close every window of the browser and open it again; a policy added while the browser was running is not always picked up.
  • The address must read exactly https://app.worshipmetrics.com, with https and no slash or path after it.
  • Check the browser's version on its About page: 124 or newer.
  • One press on the operator page, or one click in the output window, fills it in the meantime.

The output window shows a bar in Firefox or Safari

Firefox and Safari have no such setting, and they do not let the operator page fill another window either. Click once inside the output window; it fills its screen and stays that way until Esc.

The download opens as a page of text instead of saving

Right-click the address and choose to save the link, or use the browser's download shortcut on the page. Both files are plain text, so a copy that was shown as text can be saved with the browser's save command under the same name.

I applied the file, and now a different website goes full screen on its own

It cannot: the setting names app.worshipmetrics.com and nothing else. If another site goes full screen without a click, that site has its own permission in the browser's site settings, unrelated to this file.

Good to know

  • The setting lives on the computer, so each booth computer needs it once. A new computer, or a reinstalled Windows or macOS, needs it again.
  • The next press on the operator page fills the window in Chrome and Edge without the setting; the setting only removes that press.
  • Tech Manager (the desktop app) does not use a browser for its screens, so none of this applies there.
  • A church that cannot change its computers' settings loses nothing: the window still fills from the next press, from the row, or from a click in it.
