On this page
A song's page holds everything about one song: its details, its arrangements, the keys your team plays it in, the chords and lyrics, chord charts and other files, and where it has been used.
Where to find it
Go to Plan > Songs and click the song's row. It works on the web app and in Tech Manager. The top shows the title, with Edit and Delete on the right and a back arrow on the left that returns to the song list. Below that are the details: Original key, BPM, Meter, Length and CCLI.
The left card holds the arrangements and the chord editor. The right side holds Files, Usage, and (when there is something to show) Sound levels and Details.
Edit the song's details
- Open the song from Plan > Songs.
- Click Edit.
- In Edit song details, change any of Title, Alternate title, Artist, Authors (comma-sep), CCLI #, Copyright, Original key, BPM, Meter, Length (m:ss), Year, Themes (comma-sep) and Notes.
- Click Save.
To add a picture, click the "Add artwork" square beside the title and pick an image. Click the picture later to replace it.
Edit the chords and lyrics
- Open the song from Plan > Songs.
- Click the arrangement's tab (the default one has a star).
- Under "Chords & lyrics", type in the editor:
- Put chords in square brackets just before the syllable, for example
[G]Amazing [C]grace. - Start each section with a line such as "Verse 1" or "Chorus".
- Optional codes:
{new_page}for a page break,{column_break}for a column break,{key: Bb}for a key change. A{key: G}line at the very top tells WorshipMetrics the key you wrote the chords in, and saving sets it as the song's Original key. - Wrap words in
**bold**or*italic*to style them on the chart.
- Put chords in square brackets just before the syllable, for example
- Choose how to see it: Split (editor and preview side by side), Edit or Preview. Click Wide to give the editor the whole page width; Narrow puts the side cards back.
- Click Save. The button reads Saved when nothing is waiting.
If you go back to the song list or switch arrangements with unsaved changes, you are asked Discard unsaved edits? Click Keep editing to stay and save.
Set the order of the sections
The order is the roadmap the song follows, repeats included (for example Verse 1, Chorus, Verse 2, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus).
- Open the song and pick the arrangement.
- Beside Arrangement, click Set order.
- Drag sections from the Sections list into the order, or click a section to add it at the end. A section can be used more than once.
- Drag a section to move it. Click its x to take it out of the order.
- Click Save. Click Hide order to fold the panel away.
The same order is used by Present and by printed charts.
Add another arrangement
- Open the song and click + Arrangement.
- Type a name and click Create. It starts as a copy of the arrangement you were on.
- Edit its chords, order and keys as needed, then click Save.
To remove one, open it and click Delete arrangement, then Delete. A song must keep at least one arrangement.
Add a key your team plays
Keys belong to an arrangement. Each key can carry a description (whose key it is) and capos.
- Open the song and pick the arrangement.
- In the Keys row, click + Add key.
- Pick the key. Optionally type a Description (for example "Brooke's"), pick an ending key if the song modulates (Same means no key change), and use Add a capo… to pick the shapes a guitarist will play, such as "Play in G". You can add more than one capo.
- Click Add.
When the song has an Original key, a chord chart PDF for the new key is made under Files. To change a key, click its pencil (Edit key); to remove it, click its x (Remove key), which also removes the chart made for it.
View or download the chart in another key
- Open the song.
- Click a key in the Keys row, or choose any key in the View in list. The preview transposes.
- If the key has capos, click a capo button (for example "Capo 2 · play G") to see the shapes to play. Click it again to go back.
- Click Download chart for a PDF of exactly what is on screen, or Download lyrics for the words only.
Paper size, text size and columns for every chart are set in Settings, under Organization, in Chord chart printing.
Attach files and links
- Open the song and click a key in the Keys row. A Files for section appears for that key.
- Click + Chart to upload a scanned chart (PDF, image or Word file), or + Audio for a rehearsal track.
- To add a link (Spotify, YouTube, Dropbox), click + Link on the Files card, paste it, click Next, then give it a label and click Add link. The link is attached to the key you have selected, or to the arrangement if no key is selected.
Files are grouped by key and arrangement; files for the whole song sit under General. To make a file apply to every arrangement, edit it and set Attached to to The song (all arrangements). Click a file's name to view or play it inside the app. Click the pencil (Edit file details) to change its Name, Type or Attached to, then Save. Click the x to delete it.
Charts marked auto are made from your chords and kept up to date each time you save. Click Update charts to rebuild any that are out of date.
See where the song has been used
The Usage card lists the dates the song was on a plan. Each row says Sung live (run from a plan's Live tab), Logged or Scheduled. These same uses feed the CCLI usage report on Plan > Songs. If your church measures sound levels during live runs, a Sound levels card shows how loud the song has been.
Delete a song
- Open the song and click Delete.
- Confirm with Delete. The song, its arrangements, keys and files are removed for good.
Troubleshooting
The "View in" list is greyed out
The song has no key to transpose from. Click Edit, fill in Original key, and click Save.
No chord chart appeared for my key
Charts are made only when the song has an original key. Click Edit, fill in Original key, click Save, then click Update charts on the Files card. If the key is still missing, Update charts says "Set the song's original key to generate charts".
There is no Edit button, only "Public domain"
This is a shared public-domain hymn and cannot be changed. You can still view it in any key and download charts.
My chord changes disappeared
Changes are kept only after you click Save. If you clicked Discard when switching arrangements, they were dropped.
Good to know
- The words, sections and order you save here are what Present uses when the song is shown, and what printed charts follow.
- A key added from a plan's Order (+ Add a key… in the plan item's key list) appears here too, and the reverse.
- In Tech Manager the song opens inside the Songs page; on the web it has its own address you can bookmark.
