An output is one screen Present sends to: a projector, a TV, a stage monitor, an NDI feed for a switcher, a Blackmagic card, or a web link. You set them up on the Outputs tab of Present's settings, in two groups: Audience (what the congregation sees) and Stage (what the people on stage see).

Where to find it

Open Present from the sidebar, then click Settings (the gear) in Present's top bar. Present settings opens on Outputs. It works in the web app and Tech Manager; NDI and DeckLink outputs only run in Tech Manager.

When the Audience or Stage button is on but a display could not start, the note under the button has an Open Settings > Outputs button that brings you here.

Add a projector, TV or monitor

  1. In Present, click Settings. The Outputs tab opens.
  2. Beside Audience, click + and choose Screen. A new row appears.
  3. Click the arrow at the right end of the row (Show this output's settings).
  4. Under Where it goes, pick the screen. A screen you just plugged in appears within a few seconds.
  5. Check that the row's on/off switch is on. On means the Audience button starts it.
  6. Close settings and press Audience. It then reads, for example, "Audience · 2 live".

To rename the output (say, "Left projector"), click its name and type.

Add a stage or confidence monitor

  1. In Present, click Settings and stay on Outputs.
  2. Beside Stage, click + and choose Screen.
  3. Open the row and pick the monitor under Where it goes.
  4. Under What it shows, leave Follow the live layout to show whatever stage layout is live, or pick one layout for this monitor only. Stage layouts are made in Stage Layouts.
  5. Press Stage to start every stage output that is switched on.

A new stage screen starts with Background, Slide and Timer, and without overlays or sound. Turn any of them on with the icons under What it shows.

Send Present to a switcher over NDI

NDI is sent by Tech Manager only.

  1. In Tech Manager, open Present, click Settings, and stay on Outputs.
  2. Click + beside Audience (or Stage) and choose NDI.
  3. Open the row. It says the output is sent on the network as "WorshipMetrics" followed by the output's name. Add that NDI source in your switcher or streaming computer.
  4. Press Audience (or Stage) to start it.

A new NDI output carries the words, timer and overlays without the background, so the switcher can key them over a camera; anything switched off is see-through. To rename the source, turn on Show advanced settings and edit NDI source name (it applies the next time the output starts). A screen output can also go out as NDI: with advanced settings on, click NDI under Also send as NDI.

This needs Tech Manager and Blackmagic Desktop Video.

  1. In Tech Manager, open Present > Settings > Outputs.
  2. Click + and choose DeckLink / UltraStudio.
  3. Open the row and pick the card under Where it goes.
  4. To choose the signal, turn on Show advanced settings. Signal and colour offers Automatic or any signal the card supports, and the colour: YCbCr for a switcher, ATEM or SDI chain, RGB for a monitor or TV.

A web link output is a virtual screen that anyone signed in to your church can open in a browser, such as on a lobby TV.

  1. In Present, click Settings and stay on Outputs.
  2. Click + and choose Web link.
  3. On the row, click Copy. The button says Copied.
  4. Open the link in a browser signed in to WorshipMetrics. Click the picture for full screen.

On the web app the link only works while this window is in a named room (see the Rooms article). A web link carries no sound.

Choose what each output shows

In Present > Settings > Outputs, open a row. What it shows has one icon per layer: Live (a camera or live input), Background, Slide, Timer, Overlays and Audio. Lit means that layer reaches this output; struck through means it does not. Turning Timer off here keeps the countdown off this one output while the others still show it.

An audience output also has a theme button (the palette): pick a theme variation to re-dress the live slide for this output only, such as a lower-third version for the live stream. Mirror Audience (no re-format) puts it back. To set many outputs at once, or save a setup, use Looks.

Tell your screens apart

Click Identify screens at the top of Outputs to flash every output's name on its screen, or Identify on one row. If a row cannot show its name yet, a small note says why, such as "Pick a screen for it first, then Identify shows its name there."

Rename, reorder, copy, move or delete an output

  • Drag the grip at the left of a row to reorder it, or click the grip and press Alt+Up or Alt+Down.
  • Click More actions (the three dots) for Identify, Duplicate, Move to Stage or Move to Audience, and Delete. Delete happens at once; a live output is turned off first.
  • A church keeps at least one audience output, so the last one cannot be moved to Stage or deleted.

Fine-tune size, frame rate, colour and keystone

In Present > Settings > Outputs, turn on Show advanced settings (this computer remembers it). An open row then also shows Size (Match display, common sizes, or Custom…), Fit and display (Fit (letterbox), Fill (crop) or Stretch), Frame rate, Alpha, Output delay, Colour correction with Reset, and Corner pin to drag the picture's corners onto a projected screen. Present never changes a display's own mode; set that in the computer's display settings.

Troubleshooting

A row has a small yellow or red triangle

Every problem on a row is one triangle beside its name. Hover or click it to read the sentence. Yellow means the output cannot start on this computer; red means it started and failed.

"No screen chosen: pick one to start it"

Open the row and pick a screen under Where it goes. Only one row without a chosen screen is sent to the spare screen automatically; every other row needs its own.

"No screen on this computer"

This row's screen is not connected here. Plug it in or pick another screen. Each computer chooses its own screens, so a row set up elsewhere can read this way.

"Screen outputs need Chrome or Edge on the web"

The web app can only put Present on another screen in Chrome or Edge, over https. Use one of them, or Tech Manager.

NDI feeds and Blackmagic cards are driven by Tech Manager on the booth computer. Open Present there.

"NDI isn't installed on this computer"

Tech Manager explains the cause under the list. Usually: install the NDI runtime (or NDI Tools), then restart Tech Manager. Get the NDI runtime appears when that will help.

Install Blackmagic Desktop Video, restart, and plug the card in. Then pick the card under Where it goes.

"Pop-up blocked: your browser stopped this window"

In the web app each screen is a browser window. Click the triangle, then Open it. To stop it happening, allow pop-ups for the site from the icon at the end of the address bar.

The button says "Audience · on · 0 live"

Audience is on but nothing is showing on this computer. The note under the button lists each display and why; fix those rows, then use the note's button to try again.

"The output window was closed. Turn it on again to reopen it."

Someone closed the window on the projector. Switch that row off and back on; while Audience (or Stage) is on, switching a row on starts it.

Open a named room from the triangle beside Present, then copy the link again.

Good to know

  • The list of outputs belongs to the church, or to a room when you are in one (a note at the top says which). The screen or card each output uses, and its frame rate and colour, are chosen on each computer.
  • A row's word shows its state: Off, Ready, Starting, Healthy, Stalled or Failed.
  • In Tech Manager, displays on the church network appear in Where it goes as "Network — " and their name. The web app cannot cast to them.
