Team Chat is your church team's messaging: channels for groups like Production or Worship, private channels for a few people, and direct messages between two people. It is for people who sign in to WorshipMetrics; it is not the public chat on your watch page.

Where to find it

Open People > Team Chat in the sidebar (web address /app/people/team-chat). It works in the web app and in Tech Manager. Channels are listed on the left, under any folders, then Channels and Direct Messages. Type in Filter channels to find one.

Create a channel

  1. Go to People > Team Chat.
  2. Click the New channel button at the top of the channel list (or Create your first channel if there are none).
  3. Type a Name. Names are lower case, and spaces become dashes; the box shows the name it will create, for example "#production-team".
  4. Optionally add a Description and a Folder (folders group channels in the list; pick an existing one or type a new one).
  5. Under Visibility, choose Public (everyone in your church joins automatically) or Private (only the people you pick can see it). For a private channel, click the people to invite.
  6. Click Create channel.

Send a message, photo or file

  1. Go to People > Team Chat and click a channel.
  2. Type in the box at the bottom and press Enter (or click Send).
  3. To attach files, click the paperclip (Attach files), paste an image, or drag files onto the messages. Add a message if you like, then send.

Pictures, and files the app can show, open in a viewer when clicked; other files open in a new tab. The Files button at the top of a channel lists everything shared in it.

React, pin, edit or delete

  1. Go to People > Team Chat and point at a message.
  2. Click one of the six quick reactions to react; click a reaction under a message to add or remove yours.
  3. Click Pin to pin it (click Unpin to undo). The Pinned messages button at the top lists a channel's pinned messages.
  4. On your own messages, click Edit, change the text and press Enter or click Save. Edited messages show "(edited)".
  5. On your own messages, click Delete, then Delete again. It is removed for everyone.

Start a poll

  1. Go to People > Team Chat and open a channel.
  2. Click the chart button next to the paperclip (Create a poll).
  3. Type a Question and at least two Options (up to ten; click + Add option for more).
  4. Turn on Allow choosing multiple answers if people may pick more than one.
  5. Click Create poll. People click an option to vote and click it again to take their vote back.

Only the person who made the poll sees Close poll; closing it stops further votes.

Search messages

  1. Go to People > Team Chat.
  2. Click the magnifier at the top of a channel, or press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac).
  3. Type at least two letters in Search everything you can see….
  4. Click a result to jump to its channel. Press Esc to close search.

Add or remove people in a channel

  1. Go to People > Team Chat and open the channel.
  2. Click the member pictures at the top right (Channel members).
  3. Click + Add member, then Add next to each person, then Done.
  4. To remove someone, click the X (Remove from channel) on their row and confirm. They lose the channel and its history.

Only people who have a sign-in appear. To bring someone new in, invite them from People > People first.

Rename, move or delete a channel

  1. Go to People > Team Chat, open the channel and click the gear (Channel settings).
  2. Change the Channel name, Description or Folder (leave Folder blank to take it out of a folder), then click Save.
  3. To delete it, click Delete channel and confirm. This removes the channel and all its messages for everyone, and cannot be undone. Direct messages cannot be deleted.

Send a direct message

  1. Go to People > People and open the person.
  2. Click Message. Team Chat opens on your conversation with them, listed under Direct Messages.

Open chat in its own window

In People > Team Chat, click the arrow-out button at the top of the channel list (Open chat in its own window). On the web it opens a separate browser window; in Tech Manager it opens a second app window, so you can keep chat open while you use the rest of the app.

Get notified of new messages

In Tech Manager:

  1. Go to Settings > Advanced.
  2. Turn on Desktop chat notifications. Click Send test notification to check that Windows shows it.
  3. To silence one channel on this computer, open it in Team Chat, click the gear (Channel settings) and turn on Mute notifications. It takes effect straight away.

Windows notifications are a Tech Manager feature. The web app does not pop up chat notifications.

Troubleshooting

Problems in Team Chat:

"Team Chat requires cloud pairing."

This Tech Manager is not connected to your church. Go to Settings > Account and connect this computer.

"Sign in to send messages"

Tech Manager is connected, but nobody is signed in on it, so it cannot post, edit or delete. Sign in, then try again.

"Your sign-in has expired."

On the web app, reload the page and sign in again.

I can't find someone to add

They need a sign-in. If the add list says "Everyone in the org is already in this channel.", they are already a member.

I get no notifications

Check that Desktop chat notifications is on in Settings > Advanced in Tech Manager, and that the channel is not muted on this computer. You are not notified about the channel you are looking at.

Good to know

  • Mute is per computer: muting a channel in one Tech Manager does not mute it anywhere else.
  • Public channels include everyone in your church with a sign-in; private channels only the people added.
